EFFECT OF GRADED LEVEL OF DRIED DOUM PALM PULP (HYPHAENE THEBAICA) ON THE GROWTH PERFORMANCE AND HAEMATOLOGICAL INDICES OF GROWING RABBITS
Abstract
This study was carried out to investigate the growth performance and haematological Indices of rabbits fed diets containing varying levels of doum palm meal. Thirty two (32) growing rabbits were randomly allocated to four dietary treatments replicated twice with four rabbit per replicate in a completely randomized design. They were fed four experimental diets containing 0 %(T1), 10 % (T2), 20 % (T3), and 30 % (T4) doum palm meal, respectively. And the experiment lasted for 7 weeks, Data obtained were subjected to analysis of variance, and mean were separated using least significant different (LSD). The haematological Indices measurd includ packed cell volume (PCV), haemoglobin concentration (HC), red blood cell (RBC), white blood cell (WBC), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular haemoglobin (MCH) and differential leucocyte count (DLC). The result of the growth performance showed no significant differences (P > 0.05) in average initial body weight (AIBW: 748.75–758.75 g), average final body weight (AFBW), average daily weight gain (ADWG), or feed conversion ratio (FCR) across treatments. However, average daily feed intake (ADFI) increased significantly (P
