Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigates the role of police-community collaboration in crime reduction in Ika North East Local Government Area, Delta State, Nigeria. The objectives were to assess community awareness and understanding of police collaboration, examine the nature of police-community relations, evaluate the impact of collaboration on crime reduction, and identify the challenges hindering effective implementation. The research adopted a descriptive survey design using a structured questionnaire administered to 400 participants, with 380 valid responses analyzed. Statistical tools including frequencies, percentages, and chi-square tests were used for data analysis. The results showed significant community awareness of police-community collaboration and a positive impact on crime reduction, although issues such as mistrust, fear of retaliation, poor communication, and police misconduct persist. The findings confirm that trust, public education, and inclusive participation are vital for improving security outcomes. The study concludes with practical recommendations and suggests areas for further research on grassroots policing strategies.
