Abstract

This study examined the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) resources for effective teaching of Basic Science by teachers in Etung Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. Four purposes of the study were stated, and four research questions were formulated which were converted to four statements of hypotheses. Literature review was carried out based on the variables under study. Expost facto research design was considered most suitable for the study. Census sampling technique was adopted in selecting the 27 respondents sampled for the study. A validated 30 items four-point modified Likert scale questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. The face validity of the instrument was established by two lecturers in Test and Measurement and the researcher’s supervisors. The reliability estimates of the instrument ranged from .81-.89 and this was established using the Cronbach Alpha method. To test the hypotheses formulated for the study, Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation statistical tool was used. The hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The results obtained from analysis of data revealed that the use of computers, use of Television broadcast, use of print media and use of smart phones significantly relate with effective teaching of Basic Science. It was therefore recommended among others that the government should provide schools with independent sources of power supply and install computer gadgets in schools to enhance the use of ICTs.
