NIGERIA–INDIA RELATIONS IN THE 2000S: AN ANALYSIS (2014–2024)
Abstract
This paper explores how Nigeria and India developed a good relationship in the 2000s -Analysis (2014- 2024). Specifically, study focuses on how the relations between Nigeria and India is cordial as it is directed towards seeking the national interest of both countries thereby making the relations long-lasting. The realization of this national interest is necessitated by the relationship of the two countries that is closely reviewed. The nature of foreign and bilateral relationship of Nigeria and India is objectively dissected in the study. Based on the globalization and interdependence, the study makes use of the descriptive and historical methodology in a subjective way as well. This paper advanced the view that despite the cordial relationship that the two countries have attempted to maintain over the years, this relationship is also vulnerable in as much as the two countries fail to address such domestic situations as security and poor governance. Both countries can carry on the bilateral trade investment based on the premise of equal complementarity. In application of the historical analysis, the foreign relationship in the case of Nigeria-India clearly brings out how the historical friends come to end up being the strategic partners. The result of the trade composition indicates that the trade in India is more diversified in imports than it is in export by Nigeria. This piece appears to reflect that the major thing Nigeria imports about India in the scope of study is the use of machines and mechanic appliances. In general, this paper is of the opinion that the Nigeria-India foreign relation can be more beneficial provided national leaders can give their attention to capability and capacity building and have strong feeling of mission and vision of foreign policy and diplomacy.
