DEVELOPMENT OF STUDENTS HOSTEL PORTAL SYSTEM (A CASE STUDY OF THE FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC ADO-EKITI LAGOS FEMALE HOSTEL)
Abstract
The management of hostel accommodation in tertiary institutions has become increasingly
challenging due to the rising student population and the manual processes typically involved. This
project focuses on the development of a Students Hostel Portal System (SHPS) designed to
streamline and automate hostel management for the Lagos Female Hostel at the Federal
Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti. The system is developed to address issues such as inefficient room
allocation, manual record-keeping, and limited accessibility to hostel services. The SHPS
integrates key features such as online room booking, automated allocation, payment tracking, and
complaint management, providing a centralized platform for both students and hostel
administrators. Using PHP for server-side development and MySQL for database management, the
system enhances operational efficiency, reduces administrative bottlenecks, and improves the
overall student experience. The portal also ensures security through user authentication and
provides a user-friendly interface for ease of navigation. The implementation of this portal is
expected to greatly improve the management of the hostel, offering a more transparent, accessible,
and efficient system.
