ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF UGU STEM (TELJTLIRIA OCCIDENTALIS) AGAINST PATHOGENIC ORGANISMS
Abstract
This study deals with the antimicrobial activity of stern of Telfaria occidetalis (Ugu) that are readily available and consumed in the tropical and sub-tropical region were subjected against eight clinical isolates(£. coli., Salmonella sp, Staphylococcus sp., Candida spp 10, Candida spp 150 andAspergillus tamari 24,Aspergillusjlavus 93). The antimicrobial analysis was done using disc diffusion method. The results of this study showed that the methanolic extracts of Telfaria occidentalis (Ugu Stem) showed no inhibition against pathogenic organisms tested. It was noted here that the extract did not contain saponin, alkaloid, fat and oil tested. The project work recommends that further studies needs to be carried out to discover why there was no activity against these organisms.
