ZOOPLANKTON COMPOSITION IN IKO
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The study of of zooplankton composition in Iko river. Eastemn Obolo, was carried out on January 2024. Samples for analysis was taken from three different stations, Iko jetty (station 1),Otuwaji (station 2), Iko estuary (station 3). The projects aim was to designed to assess the zooplankton composition in Iko river. Utilizing a combination of field sampling andlaboratory analysis technique and asses environmental factors influencing zooplankton compositions. The study significance lies in its potential contributions to understanding the intricate of zooplankton in the ecosystem where is serves as primary food source to which thrive on the tropical water like the Iko river. The result revealed that they were four taxonomic groups of zooplankton namely Copepod, Potychaeta, Rotifera and Nemapoda. The samplings were further analyzed using light microscope to identify 5 species, 3 speciesof potychaeta, 1 species nematoda and 2 species of rotifera the total number of species in station 1 is 11 and the total cell is 26 with 92.27abundance and in station 2 the total numbers of species is 8 and the total cell is 18 with 83.35abundance, in station 3 the numbers of species seen was 11 and 23 numbers of celIs with the abundance of 99.97. in available disproportionally in Iko
