MODELLING OF A SMART SOLAR INVERTER PROTOTYPE FOR A 4.2 KVA 24V POWER SYSTEM USING MATLAB/SIMULINK
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This project addresses Nigeria’s persistent electricity challenges by modeling and simulating a 4.2 kVA, 24V smart solar inverter prototype to promote sustainable energy solutions. The aim is to design an efficient, stable power system ensuring uninterrupted supply during outages. Specific objectives include delivering 4200W of uninterrupted power, integrating with a 24V lithium-ion battery for energy storage, and utilizing solar panels for clean energy recharge. The system, designed using MATLAB/Simulink, incorporates a 300Wp monocrystalline solar panel, a 3.8 kW battery bank, an MPPT charge controller, and a 4.2 kVA inverter to power a 4 kVA load (0.8 power factor). Key features include Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT), grid synchronization, and IoT-enabled remote monitoring. Simulation results demonstrate a stable 220V RMS output with less than 3\% total harmonic distortion, 95\% MPPT efficiency, and seamless mode switching. The system enhances energy efficiency by 25\% and reduces reliance on fossil fuel generators, mitigating environmental and health hazards. This reliable, scalable solution offers a cost-effective approach to Nigeria’s energy crisis, advancing renewable energy adoption for residential applications.
