Abstract

ABSTRACT The study examines the role of the digital library in enhancing access to information in Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Library, Bauchi State. The increasing demand for quick, reliable, and remote access to academic resources has made digital libraries a vital component of modern university education. This research investigates how the adoption of digital library resources, such as electronic books, journals, databases, and institutional repositories, has improved information accessibility among students and staff of ATBU. A descriptive research design was used, with questionnaires administered to library users and staff to gather data. Findings reveal that the digital library significantly enhances users’ access to information by overcoming barriers of time, space, and material scarcity. However, challenges such as inadequate internet connectivity, limited ICT skills among users, and insufficient funding hinder optimal utilization. The study concludes that the digital library plays a crucial role in promoting academic research and learning at ATBU. It recommends regular user training, improved ICT infrastructure, and increased institutional support to maximize the benefits of digital library services.
