Abstract

This study investigates the synthesized 2-Thio-2H-Chromene-3-Carbonitrile and evaluates its potential applications in pharmaceutical products. The synthesis process of 2-Thio-2H-Chromene-3-Carbonitrile, a coumarin derivative, which was subsequently characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The FTIR analysis confirmed the presence of key functional groups, including C-O, C=C, O-H, and C≡N, integral to the compound’s chemical structure and reactivity. Following characterization, the antioxidant properties of the synthesized coumarin were assessed through a series of assays, including ABTS, FRAP, and hydrogen peroxide radical scavenging tests. The results indicated that while the cyanothioacetamide-derived chromene exhibited significant antioxidant activity, it was less potent compared to Ascorbate, a well-known antioxidant. Despite this, the synthesized compound's ability to demonstrate antioxidant properties underscores the potential of the synthesized compound as a valuable precursor in the synthesis of bioactive compounds. This study contributes to the ongoing exploration of 2-Thio-2H-Chromene-3-Carbonitrile role in pharmaceutical synthesis, offering insights into its applications and suggesting avenues for further research to optimize its therapeutic efficacy.
