Abstract
Pesticides play a crucial role in modern agriculture by controlling pests that threaten crop production, ultimately contributing to food security and economic growth. The objective of the study was to determine the level of awareness and use of safety practices during pesticide application. A descriptive survey design was employed in collecting data through questionnaire and oral interview. The target population was seventy three respondents (73), simple random technique was used in selecting the respondent and the data obtained was analyzed and presented in a frequency distribution table. Furthermore, the finding shows that out of the 73 respondents, 45 (61.6%) were male while 28 (38.4%) were female. 21 respondents (28.8%) had moderate awareness of health risks associated with pesticide use, 16 (21.9%) had high awareness, 15 (20.5%) had low awareness, 11 (15.1%) had no awareness, and 10 (13.7%) had very high awareness. 19 respondents (26.0%) disposed of pesticides by throwing them into bushes or drains, 18 (24.7%) buried them, 13 (17.8%) left them in the open, 12 (16.4%) did not dispose at all, and 11 (15.1%) burned them. This recommended that regulatory bodies should monitor and control pesticide sales and enforce proper labeling and storage practices.
