THE ROLE OF WESTERN POWER IN ISRAEL PALESTINE CONFLICT
Abstract
This paper is a critical evaluation of the historical, political, economic, and military influences of the Western powers, mainly the United States, United Kingdom and the European Union in the formation and sustenance of the Israel Palestine conflict since 1917. It is based on neorealism,
the postcolonial theory, and the dependency theory and how the interventions of the West, beginning with the Balfour Declaration, U.S. military aid amounting to over 3.8 billion annually, and EU trade agreements, have reinforced power asymmetries, settler colonialism, and selective application of international law at the expense of Palestinian agency and Third World voices.
