ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITIES OF COW URINE AGAINST SOME SELECTED ORGANISMS ISOLATES
Abstract
The determination of the antibacterial activities of cow urine against some selected clinical isolates was carried out using standard microbiological procedures. The antibacterial activities of cow urine against some clinical isolates showed that at 100 % concentration, the cow urine recorded 20 mm against Klebsiella pneumonia and Staphylococcus auerus respectively. This is followed by Pseudomonas aeruginosa 19 mm, Escherichia coli 18 mm and Proteus mirabilis 12 mm had the least zone of inhibition. At 75 % concentration, Escherichia coli 13 mm, Klebsiella pneumonia 11 mm, Staphylococcus auerus 13 mm and Pseudomonas aeruginosa 12 mm had high zones of inhibition, while Proteus mirabilis 9 mm had the least zone of inhibition. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the cow urine was recorded at 12.5 % concentration against Klebsiella pneumonia, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus auerus. Minimum inhibitory concentration was recorded at 6.25 % for Proteus mirabilis. In vivo studies on these cow urine preparations are necessary and should seek to justify its potential as antimicrobial agent.
