ASSESSMENT OF PESTICIDE CONTAMINATION IN AGRICULTURAL SOIL AND WATER AROUND GASHUA FADAMA AREA
Abstract
The widespread use of pesticides in agriculture has raised significant environmental and public health concerns, particularly regarding their persistence and mobility in soil and water ecosystem. This project aims to assess the extent of pesticide contamination in agricultural soil and water, evaluating both the concentration levels and potential environmental risks. Field samples of soil and water would be collected from selected agricultural zones with intensive pesticide application. Analytical techniques including gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC-MS), were employed to identify and quantify residual pesticide compounds. The study will also consider key factors influencing pesticide behavior, such as soil composition, pH, organic matter content and water flow patterns.
