Abstract

Abstract The main purpose of this study was to investigate the sustainability of family livelihood in the present economic situation among civil servants in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population consisted of civil servants in the study area, while a sample of one hundred and eighty (180) respondents was selected using convenience and purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using mean and standard deviation. Findings revealed that civil servants face challenges such as low salaries, inflation, irregular salary payments, job insecurity, and heavy workload. The study also revealed that civil servants adopt coping strategies such as engaging in side businesses, budgeting, borrowing loans, farming, and forming social support groups. The study concluded that economic instability significantly affects the sustainability of family livelihood among civil servants. It was recommended that government should review salary structures, improve welfare packages, and provide supportive economic policies to enhance sustainable family living.
