DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF ELECTRONIC SCORING AND SCREENING SYSTEM.
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The research work carried out was the "Design and Implementation of Electronic Scoring and Screening System" addresses the pressing need for an automated solution to enhance the admissions process at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, Nigeria. Traditional manual scoring methods are fraught with inefficiencies, biases, and human errors, leading to inconsistencies in candidate evaluations. This study aims to develop a computerized system that automates the evaluation of academic qualifications and integrates department-specific screening criteria, thereby improving the accuracy, efficiency, and fairness of the admissions process. To achieve this aim, Agile methodology was employed, including system design, software development, and rigorous testing. The system architecture was conceptualized to facilitate real-time data processing and user interaction while ensuring scalability to handle large volumes of applications. Algorithms were developed for scoring and screening candidates based on predefined criteria, and a user-friendly interface was created for admission staff. The results indicate that the implementation of this electronic scoring system significantly reduces processing time and minimizes human error, leading to more consistent admissions decisions. User feedback highlighted improvements in operational efficiency and overall satisfaction with the admissions process. In conclusion, the study recommends that educational institutions adopt similar automated systems to enhance their admissions processes. By leveraging technology, institutions can ensure fairer evaluations and quicker decision-making while freeing staff to focus on more critical tasks. This research not only contributes to the modernization of admission systems but also serves as a model for other educational bodies seeking to improve their operational processes.
