Abstract

Abstract Wounds, whether acute or chronic, are susceptible to infections, particularly those caused by pathogenic bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. These bacterial infections can lead to severe complications if left untreated, especially in individuals with compromised immune systems. Fishermen, particularly from rural communities, are at high risk of sustaining wounds due to their exposure to the aquatic environment and the manual labor associated with fishing. Such wounds, if untreated or poorly managed, can become infected by opportunistic pathogens, leading to delayed healing and other health complications. Staphylococcus aureus is a Gram-positive bacterium commonly found on human skin and mucous membranes, but it can cause a wide range of infections, including skin and soft tissue infections, which are often encountered in wound care. On the other hand, Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a Gram-negative bacterium, frequently implicated in chronic wounds, especially in immunocompromised individuals, and is known for its resistance to many antibiotics, making it a significant concern in wound management
