HOSTING A WEB PORTAL ON THE CLOUD FOR POLYTECHNIC
Abstract
ABSTRACT
In today’s rapidly evolving educational landscape, polytechnics and higher institutions are increasingly expected to deliver scalable, secure, and uninterrupted online services to students, lecturers, and administrators. This project investigates the migration of an existing Polytechnic web portal currently hosted on a shared-hosting server provided by Upperlink to a cloud-based environment for improved performance, reliability, and scalability. A fully developed portal will be used for testing and evaluation within the proposed cloud infrastructure. The study integrates theoretical and practical analyses by drawing on recent literature (2021–2025) to assess cloud deployment models, migration strategies, and cost implications relevant to higher education. Through feasibility studies and system analysis, it highlights challenges associated with shared hosting such as bandwidth limitations, downtime, data insecurity, and resource inflexibility. The project further proposes an architectural design, deployment process, and testing strategy tailored for a polytechnic setting. The findings aim to provide a practical framework and implementation guide for similar institutions seeking to modernize their digital services using cloud computing. Ultimately, this research underscores how cloud hosting can enhance operational efficiency, security, and accessibility while supporting the long-term digital transformation goals of polytechnics.
