Abstract

ABSTRACT According to the Federal Road Safety Reports at the end of 2007, motor accident is among the leading causes of death in Nigeria. Owing to the alarming rate of accidents and the fact that the mostly used means of transportation in Nigeria is by land, it is imperative to tap i8nto the world of electronics in order to provide, among other efforts, a measure to drastically reduce this skyrocketing rate of accidents to the barest minimum. In line with this, emerged this project work on “Microcontroller- Based Car Speed Regulator with proximity detector” as a development to be incorporated in every car. This safety system will automatically turn off a car ignition system whenever a speed of 111km/h is exceeded. It also has the ability to indicate by means of alarm when another vehicle or obstacle is very close to said car.
