Abstract

Discourse, as a structured system of communication, includes not only linguistic elements but also the cultural and ideological frameworks that shape societal interactions and identity construction (Fairclough, 2006). Within this context, music emerges as a powerful form of discourse that transcends entertainment, serving as a medium for articulating cultural identities and challenging societal norms. This study examines the intersection of discourse and cultural identities in the selected works of Bukola Elemide, popularly known as Asa, a Nigerian-French musician celebrated for her introspective narratives and her ability to construct identities through music.
