DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A WEB-BASED AUTOMATED LECTURE SCHEDULING SYSTEM FOR UNIVERSITY TIME TABLING
Abstract
The increasing complexity of academic operations in higher education institutions has highlighted the limitations of traditional, manual lecture scheduling methods. This project presents the design and implementation of a web-based automated lecture scheduling system aimed at improving efficiency, accuracy, and adaptability in university timetabling. Developed using Django as the backend framework, MySQL for database management, and Bootstrap for a responsive user interface, the system leverages constraint-based algorithms to automate the generation of conflict-free timetables. Key features include role-based access control for administrators, lecturers, and students; real-time updates; dynamic course allocation; and integrated management of lecturer availability and classroom capacity. Performance evaluations demonstrate significant improvements in scheduling speed, a marked reduction in resource conflicts, and enhanced user satisfaction. This system offers a scalable and practical alternative to manual scheduling, underscoring the potential of web technologies in modernizing educational administration.
