TOPOGRAPHICAL SURVEYING OF PART OF FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC BAUCHI, BAUCHI STATE.
Abstract
This project presents the topographical survey and mapping of Quarters “B” and “C” within the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi campus, Bauchi State, Nigeria. The aim of the project was to produce an accurate and detailed topographic map of the study area to support effective planning, development, and management. The Total Station instrument was used to collect spatial data, including boundary coordinates, spot heights, and topographic details of both natural and man-made features. The survey procedures involved reconnaissance, perimeter traversing, detailing, and spot height measurements. The acquired data were processed and analyzed using Microsoft Excel and ArcGIS software to generate contour maps and a comprehensive topographic map at a scale of 1:7500. The results reveal that the terrain of the area is generally gentle, with elevation ranging from approximately 627.30 m to 640.62 m above mean sea level. The final topographic map accurately represents the existing features and serves as a reliable spatial database for planning, infrastructure development, and environmental monitoring. It is recommended that the map be updated periodically to reflect future changes within the campus and be utilized by planners, engineers, and decision-makers for sustainable land management.
