Abstract

Nollywood actors suffer the brunt of Stereotyping in acting affecting their ability to take up other roles. This research is able to point out the implications of stereotyped acting. The study employs the Qualitative research methodology which includes the collection of academic materials, literature and analysis of select Nollywood movies that back it up. Findings from the research show that stereotype actors like Chiwetalu Agu, Kanayo. O. Kanayo, Patience Ozorkwo, Pete Edochie and Sola Sobowale (actors in focus) find it hard to avoid stereotyped roles because most Nollywood directors seldom care and think to cast them for other roles as they feel they can be the only ones to do it(stereotyped role) better. This study has thus recommended that stereotyped acting in Nollywood should not be encouraged as it stifles creativity.
