DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF A FUEL-LESS GENERATOR
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This project report presents the design and fabrication of a fel-less generator. The aim is to address the critical issue of energy dependence on fossil fuels. The innovation of this generator is the ingenious application of a closed-loop system, where a 1.5HP DC motor of 3500rpm is the prime mover and drives an AC generator of 220V for power generation. The power generated is in the form of electricity which is then fed back to the electric motor to sustain its operation.creating a power source without any fossil fuel. In this fuel-less generator, a DC source of 12V(Battery) is needed to initiate the process and to store the energy which is fed back to the DC motor for its operation. This will reduce the environmental impact by eliminating harmful emissions and also offer a cost-effective energy source through its self-sustaining nature. The materials used were sourced locally. The project examines design optimization, performance evaluation, cost-effectiveness analysis, and environmental impact assessment, quantifying the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution compared to traditional power sources. The practical operations were performed, and data was collected. The values generated were used in the computation analysis for efficiency. With an output power rating of 1.2KVA, a voltage of 220V was obtained and the fuel-less generator has an efficiency of 85.8%. Further analysis shows that the power of the generator increases as the speed increases and that the speed of the generator is maximum when no load is applied. The cost of production of the generator was N138,900.00 which is cheaper than the ones in the market with the same rating. The cost will further be reduced if mass produced due to bulk purchase of material resulting from waste reduction. The potential of this perpetual power source will revolutionize access to sustainable electricity.
