THE EFFECT OF GROUP TEACHING STRATEGY ON STUDENTS' ATTITUDE AND PERFORMANCE IN GEOMETRY AMONG SENIOR PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOL (SS2) STUDENTS IN SABON GARI LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, KADUNA STATE.
Abstract
Abstract
The population of the study was 11,087 students from thirteen senior public secondary school students within the local government. Simple random sampling was used in selecting 293 students for the study. The study adopted quasi experimental design involving experimental and control groups. The experimental group was exposed to group teaching method while the control group were exposed to conventional method. The study was guided by two objectives, two research questions and two null hypothesis. Two instruments namely; Geometry performance test (GPT) and Geometry Questionnaire (GQ) were used in generating data for the study. The research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation while t-test statistic was used in testing the null hypothesis. Results from the analysis revealed that those students exposed to group teaching attitude and performance was better than those exposed to conventional method. Based on the findings, recommendation made include; Students should be encouraged to be organizing group discussion within themselves in order to develop positive learning attitude in mathematics.
