ASSESSMENT OF OCCUPATIONAL STRESS, COPING STRATEGIES AND NUTRITIONAL HEALTH OF ACADEMIC STAFF IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN BAUCHI STATE
Abstract
This study assessed occupational stress, coping strategies, and nutritional health of academic staff in tertiary institutions in Bauchi State. Academic staff are exposed to various stressors including workload, research pressure, administrative responsibilities, and job insecurity. A cross-sectional survey design was adopted. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and anthropometric measurements. Findings revealed moderate to high levels of occupational stress among academic staff, with coping strategies including time management, social support, religious activities, and physical exercise. Nutritional assessment indicated varying body mass index (BMI) categories, with some staff at risk of overweight and stress-related eating habits. The study recommends institutional stress management programs and nutrition awareness interventions to improve staff well-being.
