Abstract

This study was aimed at investigating the effect of methanolic extract of Tetrapleura tetraptera (aidan fruit) on epilepsy and fine motor coordination in PTZ induced epilepsy in mice. Twenty-fiev albino mice were assigned to five experimental group (n=5) including: Group 1-control given 0.2ml normal saline group 2-recieved 35kg/mg of PTZ only; group 3 received 0.01 ml/kg diazepam; group 4-low dose 400mg/kg and group 5-high dose 800mg/kg were administered aidan fruit extract orally for 14 days with oropharngeal cannula. All teh animals were allowed free access to food and water during this period of 21 days. On the 22nd day, epilepsy was induced using PTZ ona all the groups. Fine motor coordination test was carried out by using the beam balance. Results obtained from this task showed that aidan fruit significantly (P
