IMPACT OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT) ON ADMINISTRATIVE EFFECTIVENESS IN NIGERIA: A CASE STUDY OF NIGER STATE POLYTECHNIC ZUNGERU BIDA CAMPUS)
Abstract
The study examines the Impact of Information and Communication Technology on Workers’ Productivity with Emphasis on Abdulkadir Kure University, Minna. Employs a survey research design to investigate how the adoption and usage of ICT tools influence the productivity levels of university workers. The research involved administering structured questionnaires to a sample of sixty-one employees at Abdulkadir Kure University. The questionnaire used a Likert scale format to capture respondents’ perceptions and experiences regarding ICT use and productivity. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics, specifically percentages, to understand the distribution of responses, while inferential statistics, including the chi-square test, were employed to test hypotheses and determine the significance of relationships between ICT adoption and worker productivity. The findings indicate a positive and significant influence of computer usage on workers’ productivity within the university. Moreover, data processing activities facilitated by ICT tools were found to contribute substantially to overall performance improvement. Based on these findings, the study recommends the formulation and implementation of comprehensive policies aimed at promoting the wide adoption of modern information and communication technologies within the university environment. Such policies should prioritize not only infrastructure investment but also regular training programs. Specifically, it is suggested that training sessions on the effective use of office equipment and ICT tools be conducted on a quarterly basis to enhance managers’ and staff members’ competence, ultimately driving higher productivity levels. The implications of this research highlight the critical role of ICT integration in academic institutions for operational efficiency and employee effectiveness.
