DETERMINATION OF RESISTANCE–TEMPERATURE CHARACTERISTICS OF A THERMISTOR
Abstract
This project investigated the resistance-temperature characteristics of a thermistor by measuring its resistance at different temperatures during heating and cooling processes. The temperature range studied was 0°C to 100°C at intervals of 10°C.During heating, the resistance decreased from 10.0 Ω at 0°C to 0.47 Ω at 100°C. Similarly, during cooling, the resistance decreased from 9.84 Ω at 0°C to 0.36 Ω at 100°C. The results show that resistance decreases progressively as temperature increases, indicating that the thermistor used is a Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) thermistor.A slight difference was observed between the heating and cooling values, showing minor hysteresis effect. Graphical analysis of resistance against temperature produced a nonlinear curve, confirming the exponential relationship between resistance and temperature. The study concludes that the thermistor exhibits high sensitivity to temperature variation and can be effectively used for temperature sensing and control applications in electronic devices.
