IMPACT OF DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY ON EMPLOYEES PERFORMANCE (A CASE STUDY OF FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC BIDA)
Abstract
This study examines the impact of delegation of authority on employees’ performance at the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, using a sample size of 300 respondents drawn from various departments within the institution. The main objective of the study was to determine how effective delegation of authority influences employees’ efficiency, job satisfaction, and overall productivity. The study adopted a descriptive survey design, and data were collected through the use of structured questionnaires. The data were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistical tools to interpret responses and establish relationships between variables. The findings revealed that delegation of authority has a significant positive effect on employee performance. Specifically, the results indicated that when responsibilities and decision-making powers are properly delegated, employees become more committed, motivated, and result-oriented in their tasks. The study also found that lack of trust, fear of mistakes, and poor communication between supervisors and subordinates are key challenges that hinder effective delegation within the institution. The research concludes that effective delegation promotes accountability, enhances leadership effectiveness, and contributes to organizational growth. It recommends that management should strengthen delegation practices by providing adequate training, clear communication, and supportive supervision to ensure employees utilize their delegated powers effectively for improved performance.
