AVAILABILITY AND UTILIZATION OF INTERNET SERVICES BY LIBRARY USERS IN RAMAT LIBRARY UNIVERSITY OF MAIDUGURI
Abstract
This project presents the results of a survey conducted to determine the availability and utilization of Internet services by students in Ramat Library, University of Maiduguri. Three research objectives guided the study: to identify the types of Internet services available, assess the status of Internet services, and examine the utilization of Internet services by users. The population consisted of 4,059 registered library users, from which a sample of 351 respondents was selected using Krejcie and Morgan’s sample size formula. A self-designed questionnaire was used for data collection, and 340 valid responses were analyzed using descriptive statistics including frequency counts, percentages, mean scores, and standard deviation. The findings revealed that essential Internet services such as Wi-Fi, computer stations, and online databases are available, though moderate satisfaction exists regarding reliability, speed, and coverage. The study concludes with recommendations for improving infrastructure, consistency of access, and staff support services.
