Abstract

This study investigates the impact of economic globalization on the growth of Nigeria’s textile industry from 2015 to 2024. Economic globalization, characterized by increased trade liberalization, foreign direct investment (FDI), and global market integration, has played a significant role in shaping industrial performance in developing economies. The Nigerian textile industry, once a dominant contributor to the nation's manufacturing sector, has experienced both decline and resurgence within the period under review due to global economic pressures and local policy responses. Using a mixed-methods approach involving quantitative data from trade, investment, and industrial output records, alongside qualitative insights from policy documents and expert interviews, this research analyzes the patterns, challenges, and opportunities globalization has presented to the sector. The findings reveal that while globalization has facilitated access to new technologies, raw materials, and international markets, it has also intensified competition, exposed structural weaknesses, and contributed to the influx of cheap textile imports. The study concludes that sustained industry growth depends on strategic policy alignment, infrastructure improvement, and the development of competitive advantages that can help Nigeria benefit more equitably from the forces of globalization. Recommendations are offered for stakeholders, including government, investors, and industry operators, to strengthen the textile sector within the global economic framework.
