Abstract

ABSTRACT This study investigated the molecular characterization of multidrug resistant E.coli isolates from urine sample. The results shows longer alignment lengths and greater sequence coverage contributing to higher confidence in the matches. The Image of agarose gel electrophoresis of PCR bacterial amplicon M.: Molecular Ladder shows El: Escherichia sp. strain Y2-B-103 16S ribosomal RNA gene and the image of agarose gel electrophoresis of PCR bacterial amplicon M: Molecular Ladder E2: Escherichia coli strain LB58 16S ribosomal RNA gene Sample El is the Escherichia sp. strain Y2-B-103 16S ribosomal RNA gene, partial sequence. >>> sample E2 shows Escherichia coli strain LB58 16S ribosomal RNA gene, partial sequence. Infections caused by multi-drug resistant Escherichia coli cause significant morbidity and mortality especially in developing countries. Phenotypic methods were used in the identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing of E. coli specimens. Whole genome sequencing was used to describe the antimicrobial resistance genes, serotypes, sequence types/clonal complexes, and mobile genetic elements.
