COMMUNITY’S PERCEPTION ON THE ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECT OF HOUSEHOLD ENERGY CONSUMPTION IN MAISANDARI WARD OF MAIDUGURI METROPOLITAN COUNCIL, BORNO STATE.
Abstract
This chapter discusses the findings from the data analysis presented in Chapter Four. It interprets the statistical results in the context of household energy consumption and environmental perception in Maisandari Ward of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC), Borno State. The discussion highlights key insights, socio-economic implications, and policy recommendations. The Chi-Square tests revealed varying degrees of association between household energy types and environmental awareness, willingness to switch to cleaner energy, and perception of environmental problems. While some relationships were statistically significant, others were not, indicating the complexity of factors influencing energy choices and environmental attitudes.
The analysis showed no significant relationship between energy source and awareness of environmental problems, suggesting that awareness may be widespread regardless of energy type. However, a significant relationship was found between energy source and willingness to switch to cleaner energy, indicating that users of certain energy types are more open to adopting cleaner alternatives. No significant relationship was observed between awareness and specific environmental perceptions, implying that awareness does not necessarily translate into detailed understanding of environmental issues.
