Abstract

This study examines the problems and prospects of healthcare delivery in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC). The research investigates the major challenges affecting efficient healthcare services, including inadequate funding, shortage of skilled personnel, poor infrastructure, insecurity, and limited access to medical supplies. It also evaluates the prospects available for improving healthcare delivery, such as government interventions, donor support, community participation, and ongoing health sector reforms. A descriptive survey design was adopted, and data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and relevant literature. Findings reveal that although significant challenges hinder effective healthcare services in MMC, several opportunities exist that, if properly harnessed, can enhance the quality and accessibility of healthcare delivery. The study concludes that improving healthcare in MMC requires collaborative efforts between the government, private sector, community stakeholders, and international partners. Recommendations were provided to strengthen resource allocation, upgrade infrastructure, train health personnel, and enhance security for sustainable healthcare development.
