Abstract

This study examines the impact of conflict management on the achievement of organizational goals, with specific reference to Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi. Conflict is an inevitable aspect of organizational life, especially in educational institutions where individuals from diverse backgrounds interact daily. The research investigates the causes of conflict within the institution, identifies the conflict management strategies employed, and evaluates their effectiveness in achieving institutional objectives. A descriptive survey research design was adopted. Data were collected through structured questionnaires distributed to academic and non-academic staff of the Polytechnic. The findings reveal that while conflict is prevalent in areas such as communication gaps, role ambiguity, and resource allocation, effective conflict management strategies—particularly dialogue, negotiation, and mediation—positively influence productivity, staff morale, and goal attainment. The study concludes that proper conflict management enhances organizational performance and recommends the institutionalization of structured conflict resolution mechanisms.
