RADIO DRAMA PRODUCTION: VOICE AND VOICING; MATTERS ARISING
Abstract
In Nigeria, radio plays, also known as audio dramas or radio dramas, are an important form of enlightenment, entertainment and storytelling means. This study tends to examine matters arising through radio plays and since radio play focuses heavily on voice acting, no visual components like images, pictures, since adequate voicing can have the ability to impact and leave the audience imagine a lot of things and it’s opened ended. This study adopted the qualitative and quantitative research methodology/technique by focusing on how voice acting helps to give meaning to the radio play, making use of both primary and secondary sources of data collection. For the primary source of data collection, data for this research was gathered extensively from direct study of the radio play Dis Life by Correct FM 97.3 Calabar. For the secondary data, the researcher made use of relevant books, journals, research projects and publications directly related to the study. Also, well-structured virtual questionnaires were designed for the residents in the Local Government Area. The study uses the Semiotics and Postclassical Narratology Theory as well as Agenda Setting Theory as the theoretical framework. Findings also reveals that the play helped in expanding the level of awareness of the respondents on the issue of child sexual violence while shaping their ideology. I recommend that producers of radio plays should continuously embrace the option while also stepping up their efforts in producing more plays that raise awareness of child sexual violence and other matters threatening the economy and future of this country.
