PRELIMINARY SCREENING OF STEM BARK OF RIBES RUBRUM C.R FOR SAPONIN GLYCOSIDES
Abstract
The stem bark of Ribes Rubrum has been traditionally used in folk medicine for its medicinal properties. This study aimed to conduct a preliminary screening of the stem bark of Ribes Rubrum for saponin glycosides. The stem bark was extracted with methanol and subjected to frothing test and histochemical staining. The results of the frothing test and histochemical staining were positive, indicating the presence of saponin glycosides in the stem bark of Ribes Rubrum. This study provides preliminary evidence for the presence of saponin glycosides in the stem bark of Ribes Rubrum, which could contribute to its medicinal properties. Further studies are needed to isolate and characterize the saponin glycosides present in the stem bark of Ribes Rubrum.
