TOPOGRAPHIC SURVEYING OF PART OF FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC, BAUCHI
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This project presents the topographic surveying of Quarters B and C within the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, with the objective of producing an accurate and up-to-date topographic map of the area. The study was conducted using a Total Station, supported by established control points that were verified through in-situ checks to ensure measurement reliability. Field operations included perimeter traversing, spot height observations, and detailed mapping of natural and man-made features. The acquired data were processed using Microsoft Excel and ArcGIS 10.5 to generate a Digital Elevation Model (DEM), contour lines, and thematic layers representing buildings, roads, utilities, and vegetation. The resulting topographic map provides a comprehensive representation of the terrain, with elevation values ranging from approximately 627 m to 640 m, indicating a generally gentle slope across the site. This map serves as a vital spatial resource for planning, construction, infrastructure development, and environmental management within the Polytechnic. The project demonstrates the effectiveness of integrating Total Station surveying and GIS techniques to produce accurate spatial datasets for institutional use.
