DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATION PLATFORM FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE, FIDEI POLYTECHNIC GBOKO
Abstract
Abstract
Effective communication and collaboration are essential components of modern educational systems, particularly within higher institutions where students, lecturers, and administrative staff must interact frequently. However, many departments in tertiary institutions still rely on traditional communication methods such as notice boards, physical meetings, and informal messaging channels, which often result in delays, information loss, and poor coordination.
This project focuses on the design and implementation of a web-based communication and collaboration platform specifically developed for the Department of Computer Science, Fidei Polytechnic, Gboko. The system was designed to facilitate seamless interaction among lecturers, students, and administrators through features such as announcements, messaging, file sharing, discussion forums, and academic collaboration tools.
The system was developed using modern web technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL. The design followed a structured software development methodology to ensure reliability, scalability, and user-friendliness. Testing results showed that the platform significantly improved information dissemination, collaboration among students, and communication between staff and students within the department.
The study concludes that adopting digital communication platforms can enhance academic coordination, improve knowledge sharing, and support collaborative learning in tertiary institutions.
