Abstract

ABSTRACT This study presents a comprehensive modelling of the UNICROSS electricity distribution network aimed at evaluating and enhancing its reliability performance. With increasing demand and frequent power disruptions affecting academic and administrative operations, there is a growing need for systematic reliability assessment and improvement strategies. Using standard reliability indices such as SAIFI, SAIDI, and CAIDI, the model analyzes fault occurrences, load distribution, and network response to various failure scenarios. The study employs simulation tools to replicate real-world operating conditions and identify critical weak points within the system. Despite the insights gained, the analysis reveals several limitations in current practices, including the lack of real-time data integration, limited use of predictive maintenance strategies, and insufficient exploration of renewable energy integration. The findings underscore the importance of adopting smart grid technologies, advanced fault analysis techniques, and optimization algorithms to improve network resilience. This research serves as a foundational step towards a more reliable, efficient, and sustainable power distribution infrastructure for the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), while also offering a reference framework for similar institutional networks. From the simulation result, it reveals that EENS is moderate (i.e 0.05 – 800mw) for lump load 11 (190.1), lump 12(376.8), lump 13(750.5), lump 14 (8,329.8), lump 16 (192.6).
