Abstract

Cooperative societies play an important role in improving the welfare and productivity of workers within organizations. They provide financial assistance, savings opportunities, and support services that help employees meet personal and professional needs. This study examines the contribution of cooperative societies on workers’ performance in an organization using ASUP Thrift at Federal Polytechnic Bauchi (FPTB) as a case study. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. Data were collected from members of ASUP Thrift through structured questionnaires. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistical tools such as frequency tables and percentages. The findings reveal that cooperative societies significantly contribute to workers’ performance by providing easy access to loans, encouraging savings culture, improving financial stability, and enhancing employee morale. However, some challenges such as limited capital and delays in loan approval were identified. The study concludes that cooperative societies positively influence workers’ productivity and job performance. It recommends strengthening cooperative management practices, increasing member participation, and improving financial resources to enhance the effectiveness of cooperative societies within organizations.
