Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of ethanol leave extract of Gongronema latifolium on hepatic indices of testosterone propionate induced benign prostatic hyperplasia in male wistar rats. Twenty-eight (28) animals weighing between 200 and 300g were used for this study and divided into four groups of seven animals each. Group one acted as normal control and received 0.4ml Distilled water, whereas groups two-four were induced BPH with cutaneous injection of 3mg/kg body weight testosterone for two weeks. Following BPH induction, group two served as BPH control, while groups three and four were treated with 150mg/kg body weight Gongronema latifolium and 5mg/70kg body weight finasteride for twenty-eight days. After the experimental period, the rats were sacrificed and blood tissue collected for biochemical assays. The results showed that BPH induction significantly (p
