Abstract

This project presents the design and construction of a heart rate monitoring system using the KY-039 pulse sensor interfaced with an Arduino Mega 2560. The system captures photoplethysmography (PPG) signals from the fingertip, processes them to determine beats per minute (BPM), and displays the results on an SSD1306 OLED screen. An active buzzer is triggered to alert abnormal heart rate conditions such as bradycardia or tachycardia. Furthermore, the system integrates a machine learning dataset for classifying heart rate readings into normal, high, or low categories. The prototype is intended for educational and wellness applications, showcasing the practical integration of biomedical signal processing, embedded systems, and simple ML-based analytics in a portable form factor.
