EFFECT OF FUEL SUBSIDY REMOVAL ON HOUSEHOLD PURCHASING POWER IN RAFIN ZURFI COMMUNITY IN BAUCHI STATE
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The study titled "Effects of Fuel Subsidy Removal on Household Purchasing Power in Rafin Zurfi Community, Bauchi State" investigates the socio-economic effect of the removal of fuel subsidies on households within the community. The research seeks to assess the immediate and long-term effects on household expenses, purchasing power, and overall economic well-being. Employing a survey design, data were collected from a randomly selected sample of 398 households through questionnaires. The analysis, conducted using descriptive statistics via SPSS, reveals a significant increase in household expenses, particularly in transportation, leading to a decrease in purchasing power and a reduction in spending on essential items. The findings underscore the need for targeted government interventions to alleviate the financial burden on households, such as financial support and improved public transportation options. The study concludes that the removal of fuel subsidies has substantially strained household finances in Rafin Zurfi, and suggests further research to explore the long-term effects and compare effects across different communities.
