DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A WI-FI SECURITY ANALYZER PRO FOR ETHICAL NETWORK TESTING
Abstract
In a modern world of wireless networking, a potential exists that leaves countless persons at risk of vulnerability based on legacy authentication standards. The research problem is that countless wireless networks operate with access authentication standards like WEP, WPA and WPA2-PSK that are decades old; all are hackable based on some dictionary attack or use of initialization vectors; if a person is trusting these questionable, legacy standards, anyone can fall victim. In contrast, WPA3 network security boasts additional, more sophisticated security standards boasting better encryption and password protections, but WPA3 network security implementation is not as common today. Furthermore, while there are command line utilities to assess the strength of security, there are vulnerabilities assessment tools that can assess security vulnerabilities that are either too widespread for everyday use by trusted network administrators/students or complicated enough to require too much outside assistance, which, when assistance is needed for assessment and vulnerabilities of access denies users possible assessments which could help them. Therefore, the purpose of this project is to create a Wi-Fi Security Analyzer that employs a graphical user interface to bridge the accessibility gap for increased security for all. There are several advantages to using an agile methodology which can help developers define a step-by-step, iterative development cycle that will assess which tools can be used by discovery and developed over time through usage like scanning for nearby networks, capturing handshakes, testing passwords based on what security exists; the more a person knows about his/her virtual environment, the more security and access is guaranteed. In addition, data should be communicated to the user in real-time with visual/textual representations which will let network administrators/students know how findings are developing; wireless network administrators/students will want to prevent poor passwords and outdated legacy options for their WPA3 as it's the standard so the more immediate findings are understood, the better. Finally, a disclaimer should be implemented before any accessed information that stresses the ethical considerations that come from testing. Therefore, this project will develop findings to support a universal tool for better wireless network security for many stakeholders.
