DEVELOPMENT OF STOCK CONTROL AND SALES INFORMATION SYSTEM (A CASE STUDY OF ROYAL SUPERMARKET ABA)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Retail businesses depend heavily on effective stock control and accurate sales recording. Without proper systems, supermarkets experience problems such as stock shortages, overstocking, inaccurate sales records, and financial losses. This project focuses on the development of a computerized stock control and sales information system using Royal Supermarket Aba as a case study.
The study examines the limitations associated with manual stock management systems used in many retail outlets. Traditional record-keeping methods, which rely on notebooks, paper ledgers, or fragmented spreadsheets, often result in delayed updates, calculation errors, and difficulty retrieving information. These challenges ultimately reduce operational efficiency and affect profitability.
To address these problems, the study designs and develops an automated system that integrates inventory tracking with sales processing. The system records product information, monitors stock levels, processes sales transactions, and generates reports useful for management decision-making. The development process follows a structured system design methodology including system analysis, database design, interface design, and testing.
Data used for the study were gathered through observation, interviews with staff members of Royal Supermarket Aba, and examination of existing records. The developed system demonstrates significant improvements in data accuracy, inventory visibility, and operational efficiency.
The study concludes that the adoption of computerized stock control and sales information systems can significantly enhance retail management, reduce operational errors, and improve decision-making processes in supermarkets.
