THE IMPACT OF TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT ON WORKERS' PERFORMANCE: FEDERAL MORTGAGE BANK OF MAIDUGURI, NIGERIA
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study examined the impact of training and development on employees’ performance and organizational productivity in the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria. The research employed a descriptive survey design, and data were collected from 50 employees through structured questionnaires and personal interviews. Respondents’ demographic information, including gender, age distribution, and educational qualifications, was analyzed using descriptive statistics. The study further tested two hypotheses using the Chi-square (χ²) statistical method at a 5% significance level. Findings from the first hypothesis revealed a significant relationship between training and development and employees’ performance (χ² calculated = 18 > χ² critical = 3.841), leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis. Similarly, results from the second hypothesis indicated that training and development significantly improve organizational productivity (χ² calculated = 32 > χ² critical = 3.841). The study concludes that effective training and development programs play a crucial role in enhancing employee performance and boosting productivity within the organization. It recommends that the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria continue to invest in relevant training programs to sustain and improve organizational efficiency.
