THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF 5KVA AUTOMATIC VOLTAGE REGULATOR
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Electric power fluctuations remain one of the most persistent challenges affecting electrical systems in developing countries. Unstable voltage levels often result in malfunctioning equipment, reduced lifespan of electrical appliances, and, in extreme cases, total equipment damage. This project focuses on the design and construction of a 5KVA Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) capable of maintaining a constant output voltage despite variations in input supply.
The regulator operates by automatically detecting voltage fluctuations and adjusting the output accordingly through a control system integrated with a transformer and switching mechanism. The system was designed using electrical components such as relays, transformers, comparators, and control circuits that monitor and correct voltage variations in real time.
The constructed AVR was tested under varying input voltage conditions ranging from low voltage to high voltage scenarios. The results demonstrated that the system effectively stabilized the output voltage within acceptable operational limits suitable for residential and small industrial loads.
The significance of this project lies in its contribution to improving power reliability, protecting electrical appliances, and reducing energy system inefficiencies caused by unstable voltage supply. The developed regulator provides a cost-effective and reliable solution for voltage stabilization in environments with inconsistent power supply.
