Abstract

This project focuses on designing a Recreational Centre in Maiduguri with emphasis on proper landscape to improve comfort, environmental quality, and social interaction. The study responds to the lack of functional recreational facilities and green spaces in the city, worsened by its hot–dry climate. Using site analysis, observation, and literature review, the research identifies vegetation, shaded walkways, water features, and functional zoning as key strategies for improving outdoor comfort. The proposed design incorporates both active and passive recreational areas linked through climate-responsive landscape features. The study concludes that proper landscaping is essential for creating sustainable, attractive, and user-friendly recreational spaces in Maiduguri and can guide future developments in similar environments.
